We are seeking a proactive and experienced Assistant Manager, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) to support and drive EHS excellence across our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Malaysian regulatory requirements, Kerry Global Standards, and internationally recognized management systems including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

 

The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering a strong safety culture, improving environmental performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires strong technical expertise, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to influence positive change across all levels of the organization.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Support the implementation of the site EHS strategy and lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Serve as an Internal Auditor for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and support Management Representative (MR) responsibilities.
  • Maintain, implement, and continuously improve the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, including OSHA 2022, the Environmental Quality Act, DOE, DOSH, and BOMBA regulations.
  • Manage environmental permits, monitoring programs, emissions, wastewater treatment systems, and scheduled waste requirements.
  • Lead Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC) activities, incident investigations, and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Implement and manage Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, including Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Work at Height activities.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in machine guarding, safeguarding systems, and engineering risk control measures.
  • Lead fall prevention and protection programs to minimize workplace risks associated with working at height.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), and process hazard review initiatives.
  • Drive contractor safety management programs to ensure compliance with site EHS requirements.
  • Support emergency preparedness, response planning, and emergency drills to enhance site readiness.

 

Qualifications and skills

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a Technical EHS/OSH role within a multinational manufacturing environment, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Registered with DOSH as a Competent Safety & Health Officer (SHO) with a valid Green Book.
  • Strong knowledge of the Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA) 2022 and related regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in machine guarding, work-at-height programs, and Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Sound knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems; Lead Auditor certification and auditing experience would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), and Industrial Effluent Treatment System (IETS) technologies and processes is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and influencing skills, with the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
