About the role

Kerry Inc. seeks Project Engineer at its facility located at 1711 N Liberty St, Harrisonburg, VA 22802. 

Key responsibilities

Create capital proposals including scope document, cost estimate, and timelines. Develop a detailed scope of work, creation of equipment specifications, finalizing purchasing documents, creating and maintaining detailed timelines, expediting and receiving material and equipment, and commissioning activities. Develop project specifications by making calculations, preparing process flow diagrams (PFD’s), piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s), site and floor plans, elevation drawings, utilities matrices, and other project documentation as applicable. Lead the selection of contractors/vendors in actual design and specifications of installations. Conduct feasibility studies for new or existing systems. Recommend improvements in operational safety for a project. Assure compliance with Kerry’s sanitary design standards. Develop Work Instructions (WI’s) to detail operations of new equipment or revise SOPs to reflect changes to operations as a result of modifications to existing equipment. Ensure Change Management Process is followed, and documentation is completed timely and accurately per food manufacturing standards. Ensure contractors/vendors always follow Kerry Safety and Food Safety requirements and standards. Assure compliance with Kerry Sanitary Design Standards and Hygienic Zoning Requirements. Communicate project statuses and expectations to team members and project teams. Develop capacity models for existing processing lines and identify bottlenecks that restrict capacity. Use continuous improvement tools, lead projects to de-bottleneck processes, improve through put, reduce waste, and decrease costs. Oversee entire project resource base including internal and external engineering and construction firms. 

Qualifications and skills

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field and 2 years of experience as a process engineer or project engineer in food manufacturing or alternative regulated environment such as, pharmaceutical manufacturing, consumer products or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with:

(1) Process improvement experience in regulated industry;

(2) Experience in SAP and AutoCAD;

(3) Engineering project experience with manufacturing H&S improvement to comply with local regulations, including guarding, platforms, interlock and controls modifications; 

(4) Engineering & CI project experience involving wet-blending technologies;

(5) Engineering & CI project experience with thermal processing;

(6) Engineering & CI project experience involving pressurized steam vessel cookers;

(7) Engineering/maintenance experience with CIP/COP systems;

(8) Engineering project experience with plant historian and SCADA systems, including equipment networking, integration, tag creation, page building and event reporting;

(9) Engineering sustainability project experience with site utilities including water usage, steam and compressed air generation; and

(10) Engineering project leadership experience installing manufacturing production equipment which may include pipes, pumps, tanks, processing systems (at least one project over $100k).

Telecommuting: Hybrid, up to 4 days per week. 

RATE OF PAY: $ 64,771.00 - $ 100,970.00 per year. Salary is based on several factors including but not limited to education work experience, certifications, location, etc. In addition to your pay, Kerry offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and retirement contribution (all benefits and incentives are subject to eligibility requirements).
