About the role
The Technical Business Development Manager will work closely with customers to identify value‑improvement opportunities that increase throughput, quality, and consistency using Red Arrow smoke and browning technologies. You’ll turn conversations into relationships and relationships into long-term advisory partnerships.
This position requires 60–70% domestic travel and the ability to communicate effectively with executives, plant managers, operators, and maintenance teams. The location preference for this role is in the Midwest. Strong training and presentation skills are essential.
Key responsibilities
Technical & Customer Support

Evaluate customer processes to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, yield, and sustainability.

Conduct plant trials to demonstrate product performance and application equipment functionality.

Provide technical training to operators and support equipment startups in collaboration with our equipment team.

Deliver high-level briefings to executive leadership and detailed technical presentations to operations and maintenance personnel.

Assess cost-in-use and help customers identify potential savings.
Business Development

Accelerate smoke and grill product sales within your region using technical expertise and relationship-building skills.

Build and maintain strong rapport with key customers; understand their needs, challenges, and decision drivers.

Identify customer-specific topics and opportunities that stimulate interest and drive sales.

Plan strategic customer visit calendars based on account size, needs, and relevance.

Track and report weekly customer interactions, including topics discussed and opportunities identified.

Evaluate where smoke application equipment—whether existing or discounted—can improve yields, throughput, and product quality.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Work closely with Technical Team Members to identify and share best practices.

Develop effective methods for maintaining ongoing customer connectivity.

Continue expanding your knowledge of Meat Science, Food Science, Smoke Technology, Application Methods, and Thermal Processing.
Qualifications and skills

BS in Meat Science, Food Science, or related biological science (MS or PhD preferred).

Minimum 5 years of experience in meat manufacturing or technical sales, with emphasis on food and meat ingredients.

Hands-on experience in a meat processing plant.

Strong product knowledge: sausages, emulsified products, bacon, hams, restructured products.

Practical understanding of thermal processing, meat smoking, and smokehouse operations.

Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently.

Willingness to travel 60–70% and work varied hours to align with customer production schedules.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
The pay range for this position is 102,400.00-$190,000 in Annual Salary. Kerry typically does not hire an individual at the top or near the top of the range, as we are a pay-for-performance company, and this range is set to continue to reward performance annually while in role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate within the above range may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and Location. In addition, this position is also eligible to earn a performance-based incentive compensation.
