About the role

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine microbiological sampling and testing on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, water, and environmental swabs
  • Conduct in-house microbiological analyses (e.g., Total Plate Count, Yeast & Mold, Coliforms, E. coli) in accordance with approved methods and standards
  • Prepare culture media, reagents, buffers, and staining solutions following established SOPs
  • Carry out incubation, colony enumeration, result interpretation, and accurate data recording
  • Maintain comprehensive laboratory documentation, including test records, trend analyses, and reports
  • Support environmental monitoring programs, including hygiene verification and sanitation effectiveness
  • Clean, calibrate, and ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Ensure strict adherence to GMP, HACCP, Food Safety, and laboratory safety requirements
  • Assist in root cause analysis and investigation of microbial non-conformances and failures
  • Support internal and external audits, inspections, and method validation/verification activities
  • Follow proper biosafety protocols and waste disposal procedures
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and other tasks as assigned

Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum SPM qualification or higher
  • Basic hands-on knowledge of microbiological techniques and aseptic practices
  • Familiarity with food safety systems such as HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000, or FSSC 22000 is an advantage
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills with high attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively under production timelines
  • Willingness to work shifts and overtime when required

Having any of this skills would be an added advantage:

  • Experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment
  • Knowledge of environmental hygiene monitoring, shelf-life studies, and data trending
  • Understanding of local and international food safety regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications or laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
